Project Journal

The Timeline 05/17/2018:  Today I worked on research and organization. I  started off by creating a project folder and downloading assets such as textures. Then I researched the dimensions of a chess board and chess pieces to better help with creating the models. 05/23/2018:  I began creating the chess board today, I found that using a grid was better than using a plane mesh. 05/29/2018:  Today I created the base of the chess piece that I'm going to use on all my models. 05/31/2018:  I created the pawn piece with as much detail as I can by learning to use the bevel tool. 06/04/2018 : I did some touch-ups on the chess board such as making a 3D board and surrounding it with a wood cover. 06/06/2018:  I converted the chess piece base into low-ploy by deleting and then bridging edge loops. 06/08/2018:  Using the low-ploy base I built up all the other chess pieces. 06/12/2018:  I completed the rook, bishop and the knight pieces ...

Final Project - Complete Blender Chess Set

Folder Link: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1rGcYKMyG0JOsyd2hY95XHZwfwwywRWlO?usp=sharing Customization: This tutorial I used:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_J2-UBK9_PA , only covered how to create highly detailed and realistic chess pieces. I wanted to create a more retro video gamy aesthetic for the chess pieces to honour the golden age of the first 3D low poly games. I created the realistic chess piece from the tutorial, removed some edge loops, by selected and deleting some edges. Until I have a simple wireframe of the old piece. Then I used bridge edge loops or the fill face tool to fill in the wireframe. Creating a unique low poly chess piece. This tutorial taught me how to create a chess board with a grid and how grids work in general.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYSF2BrM8qw  I improved the board design by giving it a glossy marble finish. I also surrounded the board with a wood cover of sorts because I thought the ...

Final Project Proposal

Blender Chess Set My final project idea is to create a full 3D chess set in Blender that may even be playable, I also intend on giving the chess set a distinct theme rather than have it be a classic chess set. I foresee adding my own ideas such as making the chess pieces glass/transparent and also creating checkers or other board games. I expect to be to use my classes in May for 3D modelling and sculpting, while June classes will be used to polish or even implement gameplay through GameMaker. Project Timeline(Hypothesised) Download, store and create an asset library (1 class) Create a chess board with a plane (3 class) Create one of each chess piece (2 class) Apply textures and other assets (2 class) Put pieces on the board (1 class) Polish and customize (3 class) <===Extra Ideas===>  Import as sprites into Game-Maker? Create 3D chess game? Project Journal 05/17/2018: Today I worked on research and organization. I  started off by c...

GameMaker - Asteroids - Part C

Asteroids Project Folder: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1SwtYyLFtUVZyZlJftIXicvjOutUJxCkz?usp=sharing EXE file: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1TlFaRWQL55fllH8J4L3y-2aoEi8c98_c/view?usp=sharing What difficulties did you have?  I had some difficulty getting the hitboxes to work with my ship, and implementing the menu system. How did you solve them? I modified the hitboxes of the ship and created another room set before the asteroids room to act as a proper menu. What did you change in your game to make it unique? How do these changes affect gameplay? I added a menu system, I changed the ship design, I changed the dead player design, I sped up the ship speed, and I shortened the invincibility time. These changes create a more challenging and polished game.

GameMaker - Asteroids - Part B

EXE File: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1GQC_s4WcQkz_D2mNjMljQZIuJdsI1Mkq/view?usp=sharing What difficulties did you have? How did you solve them? In Part B, I had some difficulties getting my game to work. I would run the game and find it riddled with some annoying error. To solve this I ran the game in debug mode so I can precisely see where the error is in my lines of code and fix it. It was often some stupid typo like I would write ramdom  instead of random .

GameMaker - Asteroids Part A

EXE File: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1HADBUjzv8typIpb_lJoebJ85mwp9SkH7/view?usp=sharing What difficulties did you have? How did you solve them? I had some difficulty following the tutorial, because it was so slow and long. I solved this by speeding up the playback speed to 1.5.
