Scratch Level 4 - Create Your Own Game
https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/192124217/
1. What difficulties did you have with programming this game? How did you fix them? Be specific.
I initially had difficulties decided how to do the movement in my game. As I wanted the level to scroll left when you moved forward(right). Eventually, I found a tutorial for scrolling and I programmed a scrollx variable which allowed me to combine multiple scenes into a level. I also had trouble programming jumping and getting stuck on walls. I fixed this by adding ``if touching colour`` blocks for all the colours that make up the platforms and ground in my game.
2. If you used tutorials or another person's scratch project for reference, tell me what changes did you make to YOUR project?
I used my own sprites drawn in Photoshop one of which I animated in Scratch. I added an enemy that would chase the player. I added a win condition or objective for my game. I fixed the jumping issue found in the tutorial, and I also added a story.
3.What feedback did your beta testers have for you and how did you implement their suggestions?
In earlier versions of my game, my beta testers had problems with getting stuck in the ground. I fixed this problem by deleting some sensing blocks. My beta testers also said that the character was too small in contrast to the rest of the level. I implement their changes by enlaring my character and redoing the stages.
4. What would you improve with your game? What would be the next steps with your game if you had more time?
If I had more time I would have implemented weapons and AI for the enemies. I would also have a bigger level with more interesting platforming. I would design more sprites and even the backdrop in Photoshop. The next steps I would have taken would be implemting a equipment mechanic, where you can press a button to pick something up. I would have added combat and followers in the form of pets. But in the end I was limited by my knowledge of Scratch and time.

ReplyDeleteNice work! Although... I'm not sure if the zombie will ever actually get me (?).
